A set of 3 posters:
– Islamic Geometry Family Tree
– Patterns and Tilings
– Bu ‘Inaniya madrasa, Fes
The Bu ‘Inaniya madrasa in Fes has some of the most beautiful and complex Islamic geometric compositions in Morocco. This poster gives historical information on this building and on the method of traditional manufacture.
Almost all patterns and compositions can be categorised by using this poster. It is based on the premise that all patterns start as a circle and the first creative choice is: into how many equal segments do I divide my circle. There are three choices and these create three categories. Applying this knowledge is the first step on the road to learning the language of Islamic geometric design. Size: A2 (420 x 594 mm). Full colour 200 gm satin paper.
This poster shows how Islamic geometric patterns are constructed using principles that are part of mathematics and geometry. Patterns can be understood to be made of visual building blocks that are put together using the principles of tiling and tessellation.
